The Wise Wife

Otis Redding’s “Call Me Mister Pitiful” describes the poor slob in the conjugal bed next to a wife who has no interest and no tolerance for intimacy. She can alleviate the situation in minutes to insure a good night’s sleep for everyone but, sex means something else for her…and it should. But that’s not the point.

The disparity of libidos between men and women is huge…as evolution would have it – a kind of reverse oogamy. One man could theoretically repopulate the earth in a very short time, if every sperm counted. Men are sperm machines way beyond the receptivity of any one, fertile, woman. But monogamy says no, curb your enthusiasm, all that must change.  Lust is perverse…and pitiful.

The wise wife knows better.

On September 19th 2011, CNN reported that the women in a village in Mindanao, Philippines got their men to do their bidding with a sex strike. It worked.

Men are always happy to have sex. There’s an old joke: a wife, agonizing over the remoteness of her husband, initiates sex and finds that he is as passionate as ever. Not long after, he is distant again. The next day she peeked in his diary: "Boat won’t start, can’t figure it out…but at least I got laid."
